So what have I been doing over the hiatus?  Catching up on some much neglected work around the house including my studio which I have finally added enough space for Hemi to roam a bit without sitting right on the keyboard or tablet.  I haven’t had a chance to see if it worked since moving everything around caused quite a ruckus and Hemi has avoided the studio.  Or it could be the TARDIS mini fridge humming away in one corner.

So what does 2013 look like in my world?  Not much different than 2012.  I’m looking over a couple ideas for my creative project for the year.  I have a few things I’d like to explore- but only time will tell if there is time- I at least have a bit more space to work on some smaller projects.

I know, it’s a little confusing, so let me try to explain.  Some comic book companies use various ploys to get you to buy more books.  In the summer it’s usually some universe shattering mega event covered by not only major titles, but also titles you would never normally pick up.  To understand what’s going on, you buy a number of “Red Sky” books that really do nothing to contribute to the the main story.  The other thing that happens every once in a while is the dreaded “reboot” this can go a couple of different ways it could be just renumbering causing everyone to run out and pick up the collector’s #1 issue, or it could be more drastic.  Last year DC Comics went the “more drastic” route by deciding that they would start everything over… retell every origin tweaking it for the modern world and worst of all- superheroes would no longer wear their underwear on the outside.  DC comics took some heat, but has as of now, stuck to their guns rebuilding readership.  Personally, I have tried a few of the rebooted titles and am still trying to figure things out.  So now Marvel has decided to make changes at the end of their last massive universe changing event.  As with most comic book events we shall see how long this lasts before things start going back to the way they should be and superheroes wear their underwear on the outside again.  Like when any hero or villain dies, its just a matter of time… As for My Geek Odyssey’s reboot… Only time will tell.
This year has been one of changes and I really have no right to complain about anything. Unfortunately, My Geek Odyssey has suffered due to long hours at work and grandiose ideas that didn’t pan out.  For that I apologize, but I’m sorry isn’t good enough.  Fortunately Winter Break for school teachers starts soon (not soon enough, but soon).  So hopefully I’ll have some time to get some story ideas and get some comics drawn.  Hopefully that will keep my comic books safe, although Cecil is now eyeing my Legos.
I’ve already posted about the Doctor Who building kits, so I won’t go into that.  I would like to say it is nice to escape and do a bit of Lego building.  I have set up a display to amaze the students at school and  have really enjoyed their reactions and the number of kids who are now asking if they can bring in their builds, which is nice tin get kids engaged.  Now Cecil’s build?  Well, it’s Cecil- what more can I say?
One of the joys of cat ownership is being trapped…  This tends to happen a couple times a week.  Hemi is only a lap cat for Sue, for me he just plops a paw on my hand.  Now yes, as people might remind me I’m bigger than he is, I could move anytime I want to… these are people who never have been in a cat trap.  It is amazing how when you try to move, and his paw just applies some pressure-  next thing you know it’s back to “aw… isn’t he cute” and whatever you had to do isn’t that important- Like Cecil would say- “it’s a Jedi mind trick.”  I think I’m going to go back and get trapped again.  Happy Monday!
This comic actually comes from  an event we attended in Metamora, Indiana-  we had been looking for a certain cache, and when we found out who had hidden it Sue and I decided to to stop a moment and think “What Would Larry Do?”   Within moments we found the geocache and moved on, giggling about embracing our inner Larry.  Oh by the way-  the cacher in question, may or may not be named “Larry”  I’m not revealing who it is under pain of death- or at least not without a cookie. Sue jokes with me sometimes because, while it may seem hard to believe, I’m kind of an introvert.  If I don’t know you that well, I kind of clam up and hide in the background.  I’m sure there are deep rooted psychological reasons for this stemming from some childhood trauma, but it is just the way I am.  I go to a comic convention and while I would love to chat it up with some of the creators there, I quietly wait in line, say “Hi” and move on, they’re busy and their time is too valuable for me waste.  Cecil has helped me a bit to overcome this, but like I said, it’s just the way I am- that is until I really need to.  When I need to be gregarious, loud, boisterous, I reach deep down and embrace that part of me that is social- obnoxiously so…  I call him “Bob.”  This might have something to do with the fact that my dad, Bob, is outgoing.  He never really met a stranger, everyone’s friend.  When I embrace my inner Bob, after a while Sue will politely, and quietly ask me to stop, sometimes with a kick under the table, and I crawl back into my shell, safe and sound.  SO If we happen to meet and you think I’m ignoring you, I’m not- I just am a geek, or is that a nerd, or a dweeb, I always forget which one is which.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving (if you are in the U.S.) and survive Black Friday… I did consider doing another “Black Friday Comic” but decided I wanted to finish up this arc… which if you have never played Super Mario Brothers, you may not have understood the pop culture references at the end.  I just hope that Cecil hasn’t built a full size Pac Man somewhere in his lair- those ghosts are scary. As you’ve seen from a few of my recent posts I’m delving into some other “geeky” things, and will bring them into the comic at some point, right now I’m considering a few options as to where we will go, only the future and my ADHD brain can tell.
So the Raccoons are out of the picture for now. It is amazing the things that Cecil had built in his lair.  Who knows what else a tour might uncover, but that is for another day.  I think Cecil is just hoping that Alicia & the raccoons don’t crash into any mushrooms.
