Happy Holidaze! This Week's Comics & Maybe Resolving to do More...
My Pull List and forgotten titles picked up 12/26/24
As everyone posts about their accomplishments for the year which sometimes makes other people feel bad (hence why I did it in November not only to catch people off guard, but also to not help people feel depressed over the holidaze). I figured I’d take a moment to discuss my “resolutions” for 2025. First of all- I really don’t have any. Like I said around my birthday, I use that date as the start of my “New Year” not some date on a calendar set up and manipulated over the centuries. Don’t get me started on that or Daylight Saving Time 🙄. For the calendar year (not to be confused with the school year, or fiscal year) I tend to try to push myself creatively I come up with a project that I want to accomplish and give myself a year to do it. One year I embraced my youth and made a Pinewood Derby car. Another Year I cobbled together my comic strips and turned it into a self published comic book. I’ve pushed myself into drawing more comics, or trying a new craft. This year I’m bouncing around a few ideas. Since I’ve been pretty good at keeping up blogging (that was one I failed miserably at years ago) I’ve got a few projects I’ve been working on that might need a bit of a nudge to get finished. One is to actually create something to display at Wonderfest this year. Last year I attended the Con for a day, and was overwhelmed at the art and craftsmanship the attendees had. One thing that drew my attention was a challenge in which model makers took the same basic kit and had fun with it. Last year it was the Shuttlecraft Galileo from Star Trek. There were some amazing and whimsical renditions of this craft. This year everyone is supposed to take the Back to the Future DeLorean and do the same thing. It doesn’t have to be a car, one person has already shown his Indiana Jones Fertility Idol made for the parts of the kit. I started thinking and have started working on a kitbash of the DeLorean and another famous film car… I haven’t actually made a plastic model in decades so It’s going to be interesting.

I have other options and still haven’t decided. One issue with starting a different hobby or even just dipping your toe into it, is the cost of the tools needed. It’s easy for me to jump into drawing something else, but to buy a model kit, and the glue, paints, brushes, etc… I’m not quite sure. That along with my looking around and thinking just how much stuff I have around the house (Specifically in the Pit of Despair). Not that I want to “focus” but with my father considering another move, I just wonder what I need to do with all the stuff I have when it’s time for us to move.

Here are a few projects on my list for 2025 (Not in any order):
Continue to clean out and organize my comic books (this is part of the Pit of Despair clean out)
Continue to clean out and organize my LEGO sets and elements (this is part of the Pit of Despair clean out)
Draw a full blown comic book (new story)
Draw My Geek Odyssey on a more regular basis
Create a geocache for the Circle City Curling Club (I’ve got and idea, just need to parts and probably some tools… oh, and permission.
The WonderFest Model
Actually set up a regular game night geocaching event.
Get into a routine so that my life gets boring… or at least I know what I haven’t gotten done.
As you can see from this short list there is no lose weight, eat healthier, exercise more or the typical resolutions that make people depressed. These just require that most precious of commodities- TIME. Will I get any of them done? Maybe… I’ve already started on a few, it’s just finding the time to continue and the resources needed.
This Week’s Comics:
This week due to the holidaze and Diamond still having issues, not everything was at my LCS. Also I realized I missed an issue of one comic (probably one Diamond lost) and filled in that hole. A short week- although I’m sure I’m missing something. I’m usually missing something. 🙄
Batman- Santa Claus Silent Knight Returns #5 - The finale of the Justice League’s battle with the evil knight trying to destroy the holiday’s. With Santa and Ulah’s help will they triumph over the monsters guarding the knight’s Faerie enchanted castle. Will lost heroes be returned? Did Santa invent Fruitcake? One nice things about short limited series is that it’s not the universe changing impact, it’s the stories and seeing a slightly different side of heroes you already know. With the inclusion of DC’s All In idea, some JLA members aren’t ones we are used to seeing which makes little stories like this one a palate cleanser from the crazy stuff happening in the regular titles.
Justice League Unlimited #2 - Cute little baby Parademons… The JLA teams up to save kids and heroes from Darkseid’s leftovers. Yes, Darkseid is “dead” but the universe changing ramifications of that are still floating around
The Flash # 16 - Flash is fighting Weather Wizard in Skartaris while the family is on vacation. We learn about about how everyone’s powers have changed and who is probably the most powerful member of the family (it’s not Wally). I did like to connection to FRPG’s and happy that Linda is actually my character class in their little adventuring party (and doesn’t seem too happy about it).
Rogue Sun #24 - Learn a bit more of Divinity’s backstory as we conclude this arc. Justice is served?
Absolute Wonder Woman #3 - Diana goes up against a horrible creature in hopes to save the city from a fate worse than death. We also learn the price that was paid to save Steve Trevor… Wow. Like the other Absolute titles, it is great to see different artistic styles and how these iconic characters have changed in this new world. Much more involved than Elseworld’s “What If” type stories (although I did like them) these get into much more, kind of like Marvel’s Ultimate series.
Minor Arcana #3- Wait a second… Last week didn’t I talk about Minor Arcana #4? Why yes I did. I felt something was missing and tracked down issue #3 to discover I hadn’t read it! This is more of Theresa’s backstory and who was important to her before she left town. It also clears up some of the stuff I missed by reading #4 and scratching my head over.
