Happy New Comic Day! & LEGO Stuff
My Pull List for 1-1-25 and other philosophical ramblings

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice night celebrating and a nice day recuperating. I worked New Year’s Eve (depressing when the LEGO Store has literally nothing to put on the shelves. A then worked New Year’s Day When All the new sets were released. The big hits at the Indianapolis LEGO Store: Diagon Alley, Robert Indiana’s LOVE, The Tudor Corner Modular & Miles Morales Spider-Man vs. The Spot. I think some were sold out due to low stock, but the line was longe and started forming before I arrived at 8:45AM by the time we opened the line was… long, very long. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely mind-bogglingly long it was (store opened at 10:00AM). My task to chat with the line and give them updates as to what is going on and why the gifts with purchase were. I also answered a lot of questions dealing with why there was a line. No, the LEGO Store was not having a SALE or giving away anything for free. 🙄 Most people were happy, those very few that weren’t left the line grumbling about buying whatever online… sadly most of the sets people wanted were sold out online around midnight. Then again, if you ordered it online from LEGO.com you still could end up with the coveted Gift With Purchase. You would not get said Gift if you ordered from another site. I purchased… nothing*. As an employee I am not allowed to use my discount (if such a discount exists) until a set has been out for a certain number of weeks- this is where I learned patience having been standing in that line most years.
This Week’s Comics:
Absolute Superman #3 - This is pretty much the flashback story about what happened when Krypton was destroyed. You know- giant quakes shatter planet, Jor-El and Lara place their infant son into a tiny rocket sending him to Earth… except in the Absolute Universe Kal is in elementary school- his parents are part of the lowly working class due to the caste system on Krypton and how they both are on the wrong side of the society and are raising young Kal to be a horrible liberal “woke” free thinker which gets him in trouble at school.
JSA #3 - Things start getting interesting as the JSA members trapped in Hell fight back- Hawkman, captured in the last issue, is used for exposition and back on Earth the real villain keeps trying to remain undercover, even if that could lead to the demise of another JSA member.
Spectacular Spider-Men #11 - Welcome to Fairyland. Peter, Miles, and pretty much everyone else who was trying to help our new hero -Elementary figure out her powers get shrunk down and put on trial by the fae for using their powers without permission.
Superman #21 - Date Night with Superman & Superwoman… What they discover is a nice twist… does anyone have Batman’s phone number?
Detectective Comics #1092 - The pharmacological mystery deepens as Batman and Bruce Wayne try to figure out who is actually behind the miraculous Theromise Corporation’s exclusive medical breakthrough. I’m just waiting to find out the aftereffects. C’mon if you watch TV in the US you know how the commercials go- “Do not take (insert drug’s name) if you are allergic to the ingredients. Common side effects include: headache, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, stomach upset, diarrhea, rash, muscle pain, constipation, blurred vision, anxiety, and in more serious cases, potential for blood clots, allergic reactions, increased risk of heart attack, and death have occurred. Consult your physician before taking or stopping (Insert drug’s name).
Flash Gordon #5 - Where is Dr. Hans Zarkov- the brilliant scientist who built the rocket that propelled them to Mongo in hopes to save the Earth? Oh… so that’s where. That and it you didn’t know it already, covers can be deceiving.
Lawful #6 - Have I mentioned how much I am liking Lawful? So many comics are mirroring society’s class issues and the issues between the have and have-nots. Lawful takes it to another level. The curse shows everyone who breaks the rules and “shouldn’t be trusted.” What if it was just another way to manipulate the sheep? Sadly in this day and age we don’t need a curse to show who shouldn’t be trusted… and it really doesn’t matter since we vote for them anyway.
Batman #156 - As we close on this arc so many things go down and its nice to see Edward Nygma start to realize his place in the grand scheme of things…
Ultimates #8 - oogachucka ooga ooga, oogachucka ooga ooga, oogachucka ooga ooga… Yes, it’s the Ultimate Universe’s version of the Guardian of the Galaxy! They try to reunite with a former team member who doesn’t seem to remember them- gotta love the weird world of multiple universes.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man # 28 - Miles has headed to Wakanda to hopefully rid himself of his vampiric curse… but wait, Bast, the goddess that oversees Wakanda, is upset and won’t help because Miles is already connected to another god? For those who know a bit of African mythology this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise… Enter Anansi, and let the challenge begin!
Spider-Boy #14 - Daredevil and Spider-Boy are in Madripoor to fight for the fate of the world. We learn more about Bullseye’s “sidekick” in the process as both pairs work their way through the brackets… gee I wonder who is going to end up facing off in the finals? If you can’t figure it out, you really need to read more comics.
The Amazing Spider-Man #64 - Our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man goes against another one of the mystical baddies to save our little neighborhood of the multiverse. What shall he do, and what pokémon will help him? I believe I said last week (or maybe the week before that, or before that, or even before that), I’m really getting tired of these heroes having to face challenges/villains in multi-issue arcs that are completely out of the norm for them. It isn’t interesting, it’s just IMHO silly. Spider-Man dealing with magic, Captain America dealing with demons… why? Then again with Doctor Doom being the Sorcerer Supreme and I guess, running the Marvel Universe- sure, fine, whatever. 🙄
Kidpool Spider-Boy #1 - This one-shot- or at least I think it will be a one shot pits Kidpool against Spider-Boy in an “all ages” (no one dies, no buckets of blood or severed limbs) adventure to find “Trwoo Wuv” or something like that. As always when it comes to a deadpool comics lots of fourth wall shattering and hijinks ensue.
*I did go to my LCS today and on the way out of the parking lot stopped at WallyWorld and picked up a few of the new Collectible Minifigure Series (Series 27). Using a scanner (not endorsed by the LEGO Group) I was able to get almost all the ones I had on my list. It seems that the wolf guy is the one everyone wants and was nowhere to be found in the picked over end cap. I see someone putting together a pack of wolves for some MOC they are creating.
