"Internationally Published Cartoonist"
That and a couple bucks might get me a chai latte at Starbucks.
While at London Calling in May I was asked if I would be interested in contributing to PinPoint magazine the Geocaching Magazine for the UK. I jumped at the opportunity to force myself to draw more and share Cecil’s misadventures with everyone. As with most of the geocaching related strips they have some basis in the real world. In this case I had placed a mystery cache where the “dummy coords” were in the middle of a reservoir- the now archived Mike Rowe #4. I added some commentary about the ubiquitous nature of phones in caching now - something OG chatters roll their eyes at while they still use whatever the latest app is trendy.
For those unfamiliar. Caches are rated from 1 to 5 by difficulty and terrain. A 1:1 means it is handicap accessible and should have a bright red flag attached to it so it is easy to find. A five - usually requires special equipment (like a boat) and a bit of brain power to figure out where it is.
A mystery/puzzle cache is usually one that is not at the posted coordinates and you have to solve a puzzle or gather more information to find the actual location. Sometimes this type of cache are “Challenge Caches” in which you have to meet certain requirements before logging them. Early on it would be things like finding 100 caches (a Challenge of the Century). Cecil put out a few “Challenge of the Decade” caches for new cachers in which you had to have found at least 10 of a certain cache type before logging. Years ago, I recall Sue needing to get the only cache in Benton County in order to qualify for Indiana’s 92 County Challenge. 🙄 That’s a comic for another day.
I am happy to create comics for both the US and UK audiences, and do recommend both PinPoint and FTF Geocacher to those people who have been bitten by the geocaching frog. You may notice as I post these they are different, not only in format but also slight changes in character design (Cecil will always be the same). I hope to see you at an event sometime and to hand you an exclusive Cecil Flashtag or create a monkey doodle for you. I know GeoWoodstock 2026 is on our list for next year and we just need to figure out our next trip across the pond. There is a direct flight from Indy to Dublin now. 😁

Bruce, closer to $3 here in California!
