This Week in Comics
My Pull List for March 5 & "Don't cross the streams"
I’m still working out what retirement looks like for me. I think one thing I really need to work on is getting some kind of routine. I do have to admit, I’m enjoying sitting back and drawing, listening to podcasts, reading, and other things.
This week Sue and I decided to perform an experiment. After realizing that we really haven’t been watching stuff on the channels we’ve been streaming I took it upon myself to cancel our streaming services and see what happens. We have been subscribed to Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, Paramount+, and Prime. We have a Roku TV and recently have just been watching stuff on the Roku Channel. So while we’re missing out on the latest stuff that we didn’t watch anyway we might be able to save a few bucks.
Speaking of streaming services have you noticed that tech companies can track you to a mouse click in order to provide you with targeted advertising, but can’t seem to remember what TV shows you’ve watched? Their suggestions pop up with shows I’ve already seen every episode they have available. Maybe a break from it all will be helpful. Probably won’t help with Pub Trivia, but I can live with that. At least I don’t have to worry about imagining “All life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light."
My Comics
JSA #5 - Doctor Midnight tries to save Obsidian… wait a second- isn’t Obsidian back at the JSA Brownstone, or is he with Jakeem Thunder in a hospital? Just a bit confusing but since we are in various dimensions dealing with Dr. Fate’s Tower being attacked in Hell, and Hackman trying to escape with some help from Kid Eternity… looks like its all coming to a head in the next issue- I hope I remembered to put it on my pull sheet.
The Ultimates #10 - Oh my, the crew goes after Nazis in America… gosh if only they were real. While they assault Castletown home to the Grand Skull we get flashbacks of the Invaders going up against the OG Nazis, and find out what really happened to Hitler. The only thing is some people from the past make an appearance- how will this change things?
Arcbound #4 - Evil Empire and the folks fighting for freedom. Looks like someone didn’t listen to the Princess when she said that the bad guys must be tracking them, “They let us go. It's the only explanation for the ease of our escape.” guess what- they were tracking them and now will they survive and get to the vault to uncover what this whole thing is about?
Spider-Boy #17 - Bailey returns after his adventure with Daredevil to discover he’s been replaced by Boy-Spider! How is this going to work out? Will Bailey ever understand square roots? Let’s just say Mother knows best. Then there’s the whole why attack F.E.A.S.T and what are those mysterious keys?
The Spectacular Spider-Men # 13 - The Electros have teamed up to kill the Spider-Men and have been stopped by Doc Connors and the Lizard who are looking for their son who was kidnapped by the Electros. Now will everyone be saved? Will true love win out? I will say after reading the latest Spider-Mandala and Miles Morales: Spider-Man comics I’m liking this one much more than those. This is classic, Spider-Man story telling without Magic, or gods… just a nice Spider-Man story.
Welcome to the Maynard #2 - So catching up with a missing issue. Basically reading #2 after reading #3. SO after issue 3 we know what was being stolen & why. In issue two we are still in the dark about it all. We get more background on Pip and her relationship with Sam. We are also introduced to Margot and Gilderoy Lockhart… I mean Hamilton Cape. Who we learn in issue three is the reason why the thief is stealing some pretty weird stuff from the hotel.
