This Week In Comics December 17, 2025
a visit from Captain Santa (and his Reindeer Space Patrol)
So while driving this little unknown gem started playing- those were the days!
Happy Solstice! I hope everyone is enjoying the Holidaze and the lead up to the nondenominational winter festivities which will save our economy. Remember affordability isn’t real. As I have stated before Sue and I enjoy the time together, but really aren’t much into gift giving. If we see something we tend to purchase it. If we think the other will like something we have a “stop and think” point but most things don’t reach it. Sue knits me stuff, and buy Sue things that she smiles and then puts somewhere. Our simple way of saying that we do think of each other and do care. Our current plans have something to do with sitting around the house and paying attention to the boys. We will probably start thinking about 2026 in broad terms. Right now we have a few things on the calendar, but not much. Once they make a MINI Takes The States announcement that will change.
This Week’s Comics
I’ve gone back to writing a bit about every comics, this might stick, or I might go back to just picking a handful. Time (wibbly-wobbly as it is) determines what I accomplish.
High Strangeness Book Three: 1983 Spectrevision Oni Press W: Cantwell A: Noah This comic deals with weird stuff, a story based on some weird theory or idea. This time it seems to focus on reality and so many versions. I always like to think that there are multiple universes, places where I turned left instead of right. While I’ve made mistakes, and some regrettable choices, these have made me who I am. In this story the focus is on the need to give up in order to move forward. Would you be willing to let go of something/or someone you care about in order to move forward with life?
Titans #30 DC Comics W: Layman A: Woods DC K.O. strikes again! This time it’s a fight between Cyborg and Swamp Thing. These bracket battles seem forced and dare I use the term “Fan Service.” While I don’t think anyone was clamoring for this fight it is technology vs. the green. Kind of how they viewed Return of the Jedi Ewoks vs. Empire. How will this grand reset turn out? I’m guessing back to normal, just remembering a few issues and issuing some key issues that won’t be valuable after the next massive universe shattering event.
Absolute Flash #10 DC Comics W: Lemire A: Robles Wally West tries to save his dad and figure out how to stop whatever evil is going on at Camp Fox. Don’t worry it’s not real news- just a weird form of entertainment- or at least that’s what our legal team told us we should say. In a previous issue of the regular continuity of the Flash there was mention of no actual Speed Force in Darkseid’s universe, so how does Wally run so fast? We might just find out.
Ghost Pepper #6 Image Comics W: Lullabi A: Lucas Ash now has a new favorite snack food along with the people starting to rebel a bit towards donations to Bataar, the “savior,” then again Ash might have something to say about that.
Superman Unlimited #8 DC Comics W: Slott & Adams A: Meyer Oligarchs and Celebrities in Spaaace! Funny that the rest of the universe might see Earth the way many people think the world feels about the United States. So an FTL drive is being tested and aliens don’t want to play First Contact Star Trek style, but instead want to stop earthlings from venturing out. Smart move, we are nothing but trouble. The problem they don’t consider is what happens when one of the guests on this maiden voyage is Lois Lane. Then again Superman might have a problem since the ticket is powered by Kryptonite.
Sonja Reborn #4 Dynamite Comics W: Priest A: Miracolo So what is it about chainmail bikinis? Actually I have found the story compelling. A modern woman trading places with a barbarian warrior and trying to figure out how to get home. Now things are getting complicated as the realization that Margaret must embrace the warrior or end up dead in a strange world. After she stops sneezing.
The Future is ****** #8 Rehcah Comics W: Van Lente A: D’Alessandro Using technology to aid those who cannot communicate to speak? What could be the problem? Hmmm… unintended consequences could cause problems with the team.
No Place #2 Ignition Press W: Seeley A: Simeone People in Chicago are going missing and flying or not flying monkeys might be involved. The Dorothy, Mariposa, Allen and Mr. Engine (the team at Nether Operations Place) were need to figure out what’s going on and how to stop it. There’s a greater than 57% chance a witch might be involved.
Star Trek The Last Starship ID Publishing W: Kelly & Lanzing A: Bonilla Oh captain, my captain. Kirk is back in charge of the Enterprise… I mean Omega… or whatever. Kirk is Kirk and some thing’s happen because he’s Kirk 😉 so after centuries of peaceful coexistence he ends up fighting the Klingons as they attack Earth. When the smoke clears we realize why we didn’t see many/any Klingons in the later seasons of Discovery. Kirk is Kirk after all.
The Adventures of Lumen N. Dark Horse Comics W: Robinson A: Hester The first Arc concludes with Paris under siege and we learn what really happened to Lumen’s father. Nemo fights against those who wish to (dare I say it?) take over the world! Bwahahaha!
Space Scouts #2 Dark Horse Comic W: Kindt A: Rubín we have a winner! So what happens the finalists who don’t win? No, they don’t get a lifetime supply of Rice-a-Roni, The San Francisco treat or Turtle Wax, so you can wax your turtle. It’s a bit more nefarious.
The Batman Second Knight DC Comics W: Jurgens A: Perkins This series, starting with First Knight has been one of my favorites. The story and artwork leave me speechless. While the larger format might give someone pause, it simply works. To recap - Batman’s first appearance in Detective Comics 27 was in 1939. This story doesn’t retell it, but embellishes the tales and add to it the social and historical pieces from that time that would not have been in the original comic. Things like anti-semitism, or Bruce Wayne investing in filmmaking, therefore ending up with a starlet as his love interest. In Second Knight the Batman is more established, and in this issue we learn more about the backstory of the scarecrow tied to the use of gas in WWI. In the first issue the plucky gossip columnist from the Metropolis Star is covering the premiere of the film Bruce Wayne has financed, only to get caught in a masa shooting and riot- I smell fear gas.
*SPOILERS- or no duh bits for golden age comic readers* Lois and the crowd are saved by the one the only…

I hope everyone stays safe in this mad, mad, mad, mad world we currently inhabit. Remember to be kind to each other or at least avoid people who annoy you so you don’t have to worry about if you are kind.

"Sonja Reborn #4 Dynamite Comics W: Priest A: So what is it about chainmail bikinis? Actually I have found the story compelling!"
Too good not to comment or find compelling! Warriors of old often had chainmail, worn over the shoulders and body. To protect from swords. Never did I even think about chainmail bikinis but obviously a creative comic author has. Does get your imagination!
