This Week's Comics
My Pull List for January 29, 2025 & more thoughts on Social Media
It’s actually been nice to not have to work this week. I’ve had some days to catch up on some stuff. Building LEGO sets, cleaning up around the house, spending time with the boys… With the world being thrown into chaos avoiding the more frequented social media sites has been good. It has caused me to think through social media and how I use it. I decided while I don’t use most, being of a certain age I will visit Facebook every once in a while. It’s kind of like my relationship with Southern California - it’s an OK place to visit, but I’m not going to live there.
I have noticed when I returned to Facebook yesterday for a visit just the number of sponsored posts in my timeline. So many ads, so many people trying to sell me something. The thing I have noticed is I’m following a lot more people who I really don’t know them, but I’m fans of their work. I did this a bit on Facebook, but for the the most part, I tried to stick with people I actually knew. Unfortunately, the companies drowned out those posts. Hopefully, a few more of them will become more active on BlueSky and we can go back to sharing what we’re doing instead of just how crazy and chaotic the world has become. Follow my short posts and stuff on BlueSky, I’ll visit Facebook maybe once a week. This may change and things settle down, but I’m not sure when or if that will ever happen. I have noticed I do actually check out the news more often, but also I’ve got more time to read a few SubStacks I follow.
Now I just need to figure out what to do with Cecil and his Social Media presence.
My Comics:
Small week. I’ve noticed that as long as I spend the morning Curling I seem to miss out on some comics that I might have bought to check out about adding them to my pull list. A lot of empty spots behind “new” tags… Then again, that is why I have a pull list- which is awesome, except the I forget to mark a title to be pulled.
Night Club 2 #5 - So How do you fight a mob of teenage vampires who were the bullies and pretty much sociopaths in your school? Don’t know yet, since all but one of our heroes are dead. Yes, undead, dead. Fortunately, with enough research even you can figure out how to bring back a vampire from real death… but now what?
Star Trek Defiant #23 - Alexander has to go through step 2 of the Quv Rite to restore his honor. To do this he must complete the Errand of Valor. Does he have what it takes to save an entire planet and stand up to the Federation and Klingon Empire?
While back on the Defiant Section 31 and the Cardassians are trying to stop our crew from their mission of mercy eliminating the mines developed by Chief O’Brien to end the Dominion War.
Spider-Boy #15 - Bailey and Matt are still in contention to win the big prize and save the world from whatever would happen if Bullseye were to win. We know how this is going to end… or do we? Back in New York Bailey’s mom worries and talks to cats.
Ultimate X-Men #11 - Love the artwork and and storytelling, but I think I may be too old to understand what is happening. I keep saying I need to go back and reread the previous issues, and yet, I still don’t get it all. You’ve got the Children of the Atom, you’ve got other mutants who seem to be lost, trying to figure out their place in the world. You have a world that is trying to figure out their place in the world. Who's a good guy? Who’s a bad guy? I’m so confused! Oh, and I still like the page at the end of each issue introducing the reader to parts of Japanese culture.
Lawful # 7 - It seems that Diamond (which has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protect is having a hard time getting comics to my local shop, so I get some things a week late… Like Lawful #7.
I really have been impressed with this story and the artwork. We have now gotten to the penultimate chapter of the story and we know the ruling class cheats and has figured out a way to avoid the curse. We know that the exiles aren’t really bad (they’re just drawn that way). The witch who created the curse has been attacked and may be on the brink of death. Sung finds out his past is coming back for a visit. Also… It’s not a curse. Although we still have no idea what it is if it isn’t a curse.
